Description

About the role:

The Comprehensive Geriatrician-led Medication Review (CHARMER) programme, is a five-year project funded by NIHR Programme Grant for Applied Research and led by the University of Leicester.

Collaborators are at the universities of Leeds, East Anglia, York, Newcastle, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridge University NHS Foundation Trust.

The project in its first two and a half years, refined and feasibility tested a behaviour change intervention to increase proactive deprescribing by hospital geriatricians and pharmacists.

This autumn, the definitive stepped-wedge trial will commence to test the CHARMER intervention across multiple hospitals with 22,000 patients.

Our patient and public members are fully embedded into the team and attend all CHARMER meetings. They also lead their own projects in CHARMER, most notably designing and implementing the dissemination strategy.
