Description
Tonyfelin Medical Centre is looking to recruit a part-time, Call Handler/Medical Receptionist to complement their existing team. Previous GP Surgery experience is welcome, but telephonist/reception experience is essential. A flexible approach to working hours is a must.


Job Role:


  • Call Handling, including Book appointments and refer to all practice protocols for Triage & Care Navigation, patient queries.
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and followup appointments, via telephone calls.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, and ensure procedures are completed.
  • Enter requests for home visits onto the computer system, ensuring to carefully record all relevant details and referring to duty doctor where necessary.
  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.
  • Scanning and Filing Incoming mail within the electronic filing system.
  • Maintain supplies of stationary in reception and GP rooms
  • Proficiency in using all Microsoft packages is essential.
  • Use AccuRx and any other software introduced to the practice as per protocol.
  • Franking and sorting Outgoing Mail
  • Retrieve and refile records as required, ensuring strict alphabetical order is adhered to.
  • Promote Online Services including My Health Online
  • Ensure that all patients requiring NHS Services are registered onto our Computer System
  • Cover for other members of staff when required.
  • Responsibility for opening and closing procedures, operating of telephone system and alarm system and follow instructions for any emergency system failure.
  • Use of computerised medical system: making/changing appointments, checking results and knowledge of prescribing process.
  • Liaison with other professional colleagues, for example, District Nurses, Health Visitors, Ambulance Service, Hospitals, Midwives. To pass and receive accurate information regarding patients.
  • Message handling: ensure that accurate messages are taken and passed to appropriate person for action either manually or by using electronic messaging.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety procedures as set out by the Practice.
  • Undertake any other reasonable miscellaneous duties as requested by the Practice Manager or Doctors.
