About the role:


The post-holder will provide a range of specialist interventions, focused on supporting the victim/survivor of parents affected by Domestic Abuse.


The Family Solutions Plus model is designed to improve children's social work services by offering a range of interventions to families whose children are in their care, to try to maintain the family unit where possible.

Our approach enables staff from a wide range of agencies to work together to develop coordinated support, and ultimately impact on improving children's safety and wellbeing.


Elmore's service for parents affected by Domestic Abuse aims to increase the safety and wellbeing of victim/survivors of abuse though the provision of one-to-one direct services.


Core elements of the Domestic Abuse component include:

  • A multi-disciplinary approach to working holistically with the whole family to improve outcomes
  • Use of specialist knowledge of the dynamics of domestic abuse to ensure risks are well managed and understood by other members of the multidisciplinary team and any other partner agencies working with the family
  • Delivery of specialist support for parents who are victim/survivors of domestic abuse
  • Delivery of specialist support and evidencebased interventions for parents who are perpetrators of domestic abuse, including a focus on changing their harmful behaviour
  • Delivery of support and evidencebased interventions to parents to reduce the harmful consequences of parental conflict
  • Use of specialist skills and knowledge and to work in partnership with the abused and abusive parent to keep children and family members safe
  • Use and promotion of the use of Motivational Interviewing techniques to engage families in change within children's timescales
  • Delivery and/or facilitation of access to specific therapeutic interventions for parents to better understand and improve their mental health and well being
  • Increase the expertise of the social care workforce to work with the whole family, as appropriate

Hours, Salary and Location:

Hours 37.5 hours per week, usually worked 9 to 5, Monday to Friday, although caseworkers will need to support clients outside of office hours, including evenings and possibly weekends

Salary £27, FTE) per annum dependent on relevant experience.

  • Pension, with employer's contribution rising to 5% on completion of probationary period.

Annual Leave - 25 days (FTE) annual leave, rising by one day each year of service to a maximum of 30 days (FTE).

Location - our main office base is Cowley, Oxford OX4 3UT, but our Domestic Abuse service will be Oxfordshire-wide. You will be employed by Elmore and operate from an Oxfordshire County Council team based in the county. County-wide travel will be an expectation of this post.


Key Responsibilities:


Provide a high-quality support service to clients:

  • To enable parents to recognise and understand power and coercive control dynamics and patterns of abuse and support them to make future positive choices within children's timescales where possible
  • To ensure the nonjudgemental delivery of a range of onetoone interventions underpinned by Motivational Interviewing (MI) to victim/survivors of domestic abuse
  • Undertake effective needs and risk assessment of clients
  • Manage a caseload of allocated clients, all of whom will be victim/survivors of domestic abuse
  • Provide crisis intervention as required and ongoing support to people experiencing domestic abuse, while safeguarding individuals as necessary
  • Actively manage and update clients' risk assessments in line with FSP Workbook and RAG risk assessment in group supervision
  • Contribute to multi agency meetings regarding clients (for example, child protection conferences, MARAC and MATAC meetings, mental health review meetings, professional and strategy meetings)
  • Ensure that our services are accessible to all
  • Continue your professional development by actively participating in regular supervision sessions and annual appraisals and attending and completing relevant training as agreed by your line manager

Contribute to the high performance of the wider team within the FSP project:

  • To work as part of a team and develop relationships and collaborate with all partners within the multi-agency framework
  • To report to the Team Manager to ensure accountability in the role and appropriate safeguarding procedures are in place for clients
  • To complete monthly case summaries of casework within the Family Solutions Plus Workbook, and attend group supervision, to inform ongoing risk assessment and planning
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Develop a wide knowledge of external multiagency services to facilitate and support access
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, planning meetings, and policy reviews
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of work with families on databases & systems
