We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Speech & Language Therapy (SALT) Assistant for this exciting role.

This current vacancy is for assistant who would relish working within patients own homes as well as inpatient community hospital support.


In addition you will be supported with your own clinical interests and engage in team projects co-working with other colleagues.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.


This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £1,136 and a maximum payment of £1,915 per annum pro rata).

  • To liaise with and report to the qualified therapist/s at intervals as agreed
  • To assist in the preparation and maintenance of equipment and the delivery of intervention to adults with acquired disorders of speech, language and communication, and/or dysphagia
  • To work on allocated tasks in directed contexts with support and supervision from the therapist and also independently
  • To keep up to date case records in accordance with service standards
  • To be aware of and ensure that clinical standards laid down by the service are met, and to make the Line Manager aware if this has not been achieved
  • To adapt practice to meet individual patients' circumstances, including due regard for cultural and language differences
  • To work collaboratively with all those involved in developing speech, language, communication and/or swallowing skills in clients, ensuring clients and carers are involved in the care plans wherever possible
  • To assist therapists in the planning and implementing of intervention for specific areas of work, by contributing clinical observations to the assessment process
  • To manage intervention according to agreed aims adapting and modifying as required, following liaison/clinical supervision from the speech and language therapist
  • To be able to work without direct supervision and/or on another site, working and liaising with clients, families and other agencies
  • To collect information to contribute to assessment, according to the criteria specified by the Speech and Language Therapists
  • To adhere to "Speech and Language Therapy Guidelines" and "Guidelines for working with Assistants" issued by the Service Lead, working within defined departmental and national protocols/policies
