AIS is looking for keen and enthusiastic Apprentice Patternmakers for our 2023 intake.

You will be based at our head office in Gloucester and in affiliation with our training provider, you will embark on an extensive 3-year apprenticeship programme.

During this time, you will learn 'on the job' whilst completing your Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering qualification.


What will you do as our Apprentice Patternmaker?

  • Throughout the 3year apprenticeship you will learn how to maintain tools and equipment, construct patterns and moulds from metal, wood and composite materials, design and interpret drawings and CAD data, and assist in research and development activities
  • Over the first 2 years, you will study with our training provider in Gloucester, using a combination of dayrelease and blockrelease teaching. Alongside this, you will also be working at our manufacturing facility in Gloucester, under a mentor, to gain valuable knowledge and develop your skills
  • In year 3, you will focus on your portfolio, aimed at evidencing your knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours
  • On completion of the above, you will undertake an end point assessment
  • You will work 8.00am to 4.45pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.00am to 12.30pm on Friday (37.5 hours) whilst at our manufacturing facility. The teaching hours may differ slightlyis

What are we looking for in our Apprentice Patternmaker?

  • No prior experience is necessary but a keen interest in composites, woodworking or metalwork would be beneficial
  • 5 GCSEs at grades 94 (A*C), including English and maths, or Functional Skills at level Due to strict Health and Safety procedures, you will need to be at least 18 years of age by commencement of the apprenticeship
  • Team player with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Great attention to detail and highly organised
  • Strong communication skills with people at all levels in the business
  • Driven, hardworking and proactive
  • Able to drive and have access to own car would be beneficial
