We are currently recruiting for a vacancy within this Speciality.

The new post holder will join the expanding team of Gastroenterologists at Airedale General Hospital to help support an increased capacity and wider sub-specialisation of gastroenterology services in line with our state of the art Endoscopy Department.

We are looking to appoint a permanent consultant.

An applicant with experience in Liver Disease or Upper GI cancer would be particularly desirable to help further develop services.

However applicants with other interests would also add value to the team. He/she will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven teaching ability. Experience in developing services and in working with teams will be an advantage. A higher degree is preferred but not a prerequisite.

  • Contribute to all aspects of the existing gastroenterology service including inpatient care
  • Take a lead role in the development of a subspeciality service to complement existing services.
  • Extend existing links with primary care. We encourage high levels of communication with colleagues in primary care to help improve patient experience.
  • A potential future commitment to provide acute gastroenterology including oncall endoscopy
  • To work with the other gastroenterologists to provide inpatient cover for gastroenterology patients requiring inpatient care within the gastroenterology base ward.
  • Taking responsibility with the other gastroenterologists for gastroenterology inpatient referrals and specialist gastroenterological advice to general practitioners.
  • Being responsible for ensuring electronic referrals are dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner.
There is no commitment to the acute combined medical and elderly medicine on-call rota expected. However, there will be a planned 1 in 7 commitment to a GI bleed on call rota.
