At National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO), we're aiming to operate a zero-carbon electricity system for Great Britain by 2025.

This means using wind, solar and hydropower - without relying on any carbon-based generators to balance the grid.


DAP (Digital Analytics Platform) provides data and analytics services, and a single source of the truth, that enables the management and exploitation of data across the ESO and is adaptable to meet the future needs of our organisation.

Data and Analytics Platform is a product designed to transform the way the business stores, manages and makes use of data as it prepares for supporting Great Britain's electricity system to be able to run purely on zero-carbon electricity by 2025.


Job Purpose:


The primary role of the Technical Lead (TechLead) will be to lead a team of technical professionals consisting of internal and external partner resources in the development and delivery of project solutions.

The Technical lead will oversee a team focused on software development, technical issue resolution, and delivery of the final solution.


The TechLead will work hand in hand with Product Owners and Programme Leadership Team to plan, roadmap and deliver on environment build-outs.

You will be the interface between the development team and the product team.

The TechLead will support the creation and execution of business critical or complex technical solutions that meet user needs and improve business performance by providing technical analysis, problem solving, and troubleshooting as part of a project development team.


Key Accountabilities:

Solution Development

  • Provides technical direction for the design, development, and systems integration from definition phase through implementation.
  • Contributes to the technical architecture and direction of the solution
  • Applies knowledge of technology trends and developments to improve solution/service delivery for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reviews proposals for technology systems.
  • Easily recognizes system deficiencies and implements effective solutions.
  • Contributes to the timely completion and approvals of product deliverables
Technical Effort Management

  • Creates and enables technical plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Keeps team members well informed of status and serves as liaison between both vendors and product portfolios.
  • Owns technology oversight and is responsible for managing technical risks throughout various products.
  • Identifies risks and plans mitigation action with the Programme Leadership Team.
  • Supports technical resources within project schedules.
  • Consistently delivers highquality service to all stakeholders.
  • Deploys solutions across the Azure platform for major enterprise projects

Experience Required:


  • Experience building out/standing up environments from an infrastructure perspective for delivery
  • Must have prior experience leading technical deliverables and/or teams.
  • Experience in a SDLC and/or Agile environment
  • In depth and proven understanding of Azure and Power Platform capabilities
  • Ability to influence and build relationships and demonstrate team leadership in all interactions.
  • Good communication skills. Communicates effectively with product team to identify needs and propose alternative solutions.
  • Designing and Deploying Azure solutions experience in AWS
  • Familiar with CI/CD using Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge and experience with Azure ARM templates, Power platform, PowerApps and PowerAutomate.
  • Experience of digital experience platforms
  • Experience of integrations

More Information:

A competitive salary between £50,000 - £73,000 - dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
