CDP's Global Development Team is ambitious, dynamic and at the heart of everything CDP does. As Associate Director, Governments you will lead CDPs global government strategy, focusing on identifying opportunities, building partnerships and winning consortiums to secure transformational funding. With grant management/compliance support, you'll have space to put donors first and to use your extensive experience to lead the development and success of a growing portfolio. Half of CDP's income comes from grants so this position plays a critical role in our ability to deliver our strategic priorities and mission.

About CDP

Main duties and responsibilities

Strategy

  • Lead the development of CDPs global government funding strategy, ensuring it is informed by global funding trends and provides a roadmap for growing government funding, specifically from the UK, US and German governments.
  • Support regional offices to engage with government agencies, including the development of engagement plans.
  • Track and report on secured and pipeline income to Co-Directors of Global Development and the Executive Leadership Team

Donor Relationship Building

  • Build excellent relationships within bilateral organisations and multilateral organisations to access funding opportunities.
  • Liaise with colleagues to prepare and present highquality information such as tailored presentations and proposals for the donor. This includes working closely with colleagues in London, other members of the Global Development Team and our country offices.
  • Develop and implement creative solicitation plans to maximise donor engagement and income.
  • Work with CDPs Grant Management Team to ensure effective ways of working between teams, excellent reporting and relationship management with donors.

Partnership Development

  • Identify the key external players to work with on consortia bids to maximise CDPs opportunities to secure funding from target donors
  • Lead the relationship building with partners including demonstrating what CDP brings to a consortia and how we fit with others to add value to their work
  • Lead internal preparedness efforts to ensure CPD is ready to quickly engage with an join consortia, for example building out capacity statements and unique value propositions and working to ensure we have appropriate internal systems to manage complex bids.

Support Bid Development

  • When needed, develop concepts and content for high quality funding proposals, and submit them to donors.
  • Ensure quality control of all submissions
  • Develop excellent relationships with finance, MEL and other key functions within CPD to support bid development

Team leadership and development

  • Provide strategic leadership to a dynamic team that is responsible for supporting ambitious fundraising targets as well as the management of a portfolio of awards.
  • Support the team to thrive in their roles through developing their capabilities and capacity; and ensuring a good work like balance and wellbeing
  • Provide remote support and mentorship as needed to grants management staff based in regional CDP offices

Development Department Leadership

  • Play an active role within the Development Leadership Group working with regional and portfolio counterparts to contribute to the implementation of CDPs funding strategy
  • Set and model an inclusive culture across Development and throughout CDP.

Person specification

  • Experience of developing and delivering against ambitions funding strategies and targets for government and other institutional funding.
  • Extensive experience of bespoke proposal and report writing for an institutional (government) funding audience at six and seven figure level.
  • Proven ability to build and manage government donor income streams, maximising the value of existing and prospective supporters.
  • Proven track record of relationship building with governments, multilaterals and partners to secure grants at six and seven figure level.
  • Ability to understand diverse government donor strategies and deliver a bespoke approach to meet these.
  • Demonstrable skill in adapting written and verbal communications for an institutional funding audience
  • Excellent facetoface, interpersonal, negotiating and persuasive skills including the ability to build internal bid teams around individual funding opportunities.
  • Confidence in working with senior stakeholders internally and externally, using tact and
- diplomacy.
