Key responsibilities

  • The general management of all construction and civil engineering activities in your section.
  • Daily allocation of plant, labour, and materials.
  • Attending team and site meetings as required by the Construction Superintendent.
  • Coordinate activities on the site including Subcontractors.
  • The management of the workforce on site to ensure that safe methods of work are used and the effect on the environment is minimised.
  • Ensuring deliveries are kept in safe areas to keep from causing injury to the public and staff and plant not damaged.
  • Ensuring correct PPE available and used.
  • Aid method statement production and review.
  • Oversee contractors and subcontractors throughout all stages of site preparation and construction.
  • Conduct daily inspections for compliance and site safety.
  • Liaise and aid the onsite permitting office.
  • Promote a positive Quality culture of Do It Right, first time, every time.
  • Complete Quality records and process control documents (as required by role) e.g., Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Planning, testing regimes.
  • Report any nonconformance to generate timely action and prevent recurrence.
  • Proactively assist with improvement. Investigate where significant failures have occurred to identify root cause and learning opportunities, Lessons learnt.
  • Work with the Externals lead to deliver the project priorities and ensure that swift resolution to issues arising that block progress.

About you


We are looking for a proactive External Works Manager with experience in complex delivery projects to join our operational management team on our contract facility near Reading.


The roles require Security Clearance at SC level with some to DV level, therefore the ability to obtain clearance is essential.

Additional Requirements

  • Managed contractors to safely execute site works.
  • Health, safety, and quality focused.
  • Good awareness of CDM, construction practices and health and safety legislation.
  • Can demonstrate effective stakeholder management and understands the importance of integrated team delivery.
  • Contract management experience and can effectively manage daily site works.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system).

Security

  • Current holder of Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) Clearance, or willing to obtain security clearance required for role.
