Description

Casework Administrator - Mental Health Casework Section

£26,762 - £28,178

Croydon:

The Mental Health Casework Section (MHCS) sits in the Public Protection Group of the Wales and Public Protection Directorate. The posts are based in HQ and located in Ruskin Square, Croydon.

The main role of MHCS is to discharge the Justice Secretary's functions under the Mental Health Act 1983 in relation to restricted patients.

MHCS seeks to protect the public from further offending committed by restricted patients, to ensure confidence is maintained in the system of diverting offenders into treatment and to provide victims with an opportunity to seek conditions.

This involves the transfer of prisoners to and from hospital, and the management of other restricted patients diverted for treatment at the point of sentence including those detained in hospital or conditionally discharged to live in the community under supervision.

MHCS takes decisions on recall, community leave, hospital transfers and provides advice to clinicians on the management of restricted patients.

There are a number of casework administrator posts in MHCS who are part of a cohort of casework administrators. Each job holder will report to a Casework Support Team Leader.

The job holder's responsibilities involve supporting caseworkers and other senior staff; obtaining papers from the courts, prisons and CPS; producing and issuing stock letters; and updating the PPUD electronic case management system.

All of the work requires attention to detail, the ability to meet tight deadlines, organise and prioritise casework and establish good working relationships with other agencies involved in the management of restricted patients.

The work concerns dangerous mentally disordered offenders and some of the material you will see as part of the role is of a disturbing and sensitive nature.

Casework administrators require good organisational skills and are expected to work with a reasonable degree of autonomy.
