This exciting new post has been designed to give clinical leadership in relation to the safeguarding of children, children looked after and adults across Somerset for primary care.

The post holder will work closely with GPs, Pharmacy, Optometry and Dental (POD) health care providers and other health care professionals to ensure that high quality, accessible health care services are delivered across Somerset.


This specialist safeguarding role includes:

  • Acting as clinical lead for safeguarding in Primary Care
  • Contributing to the safeguarding element of provider assurance visits
  • Taking responsibility for discrete and specific pieces of safeguarding work as required.


The primary purposes of this role will be to lead GP and POD services safeguarding initiatives, contribute to strategic planning and promote good professional safeguarding related practice within GP Practices (including unscheduled care and out of hours services) and POD services.

The named professional for safeguarding in Primary Care will provide advice and expertise for all primary care colleagues and be an advocate for practice staff, especially GP Practice Safeguarding leads, POD Safeguarding service leads, involvement in all aspects of adult and children safeguarding.


We are looking for a qualified practitioner with experience of working within Primary care in a senior position that has involved working with complex cases / safeguarding related work.
