The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Cambridge as a Facilities Assistant.


The role holder, alongside existing colleagues, will provide facilities services to buildings and tenants as part of the Facilities Management team.

The work supports the academic community and contribute to the smooth running of the buildings and sites.

The role holder frequently works non-standard and unsocial hours; sometimes working without direct supervision across multiple buildings and sites.

The role holder provides the following diverse and responsible services:

  • Morning or evening Site inspection for pre-operation cleaning standards. Ad hoc spot cleaning where required during the day.
  • Setting and resetting of seminar rooms and lecture theatres to agreed pattern or style.
  • Transport, logging and distribution of delivered items and post.
  • Provision of site security including unlock and locking up, first point of call daytime security incidents.
  • Coordinating access for removal company and coordinating logistics for office moves including assisting where required.
  • General maintenance, including agreed tasks of hanging noticeboards, making good walls, painting, litter picking, assisting with waste disposal.
  • The role will also include vacant property checks from fit for use and security perspective.
  • Monitoring and policing site car parking including contact with tenant contact.
  • Operating various IT Systems both generic and bespoke to Facilities.
  • First response AV support for inoperable equipment in meeting rooms and Lecture Theatres.


The role holder interacts with all staff and visitors and provides a friendly, helpful service to a wide range of people both internal and external to the University.

The role holder may be required to do similar duties on other sites managed by the Facilities Management Section.
