Build your career, shape our city, make an impact

Future of London's Emerging Talent Programme is aimed at talented individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds who want to make a positive impact on London's places and spaces, to ensure they meet the needs of our diverse communities, in a structured development programme.

You will be supported in progressing to substantive, permanent roles in jobs suited to your strengths and preferences. This ultimately will achieve the programme's aim - to increase representation in London's built environment sector.

Who is the Emerging Talent Programme for?

This programme is aimed at individuals from London's ethnic minority communities who are passionate about making an impact in the capital through starting a career in the Built Environment.

The programme is for you if you are at the start of your career or looking to change direction.

You may have recently completed your university studies or some years of work and or other practical experience since completing full time education.

This programme is not suitable for recent school or college leavers.
- are from an ethnic minority background;
- can prove your right to work in the UK;
- have qualifications in Maths and English equivalent to Grade C or 4 at GCSE;
- are passionate about working in London's built environment;
- will be available for full-time work from April July 2025.

Why this sector could be for you
Working in housing, regeneration and developments makes a real impact on communities in London. You will be able to see first hand the results of your work.

This could be supporting vulnerable people to access housing, delivering new public spaces that support health and wellbeing, developing and delivering changes in policy that support better transport or being involved in the delivery of new buildings that revitalise an area and provide real opportunities for employment to the local community.

The career opportunities in this sector are widespread. There are substantial skills gaps in housing, regeneration, development and infrastructure.

The lack of ethnic diversity of professionals and managers is seen by many employers in this sector as a major challenge in delivering the needs of Londoners.

The opportunity
The Emerging Talent Programme will give you a unique foundation for a successful career in the built environment sector:

  • 15 months employment at a salary of £28,000pa
- two placements - one for nine months, then one for six months - working full time
- experience in two different types of organisation giving you insight into different professional and managerial careers
- a series of regular training days, exclusive to you and your peers on the programme.
support from a mentor who is an established professional in the sector
