Join the Inclusion Health Team in Birmingham Public Health and work alongside other practitioners wanting to make a difference and further develop their public health expertise and experience.


We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled public health officer to join our multi-disciplinary Public Health Division within the largest Local Authority in the country and be involved in work that makes a difference to our most vulnerable citizens.


This is a full-time permanent position, which is part of the Inclusion Health Team within the Healthy Behaviours and Communities sub-division.

We work with a wide range of stakeholders to improve health and wellbeing, including internal directorates, academics, the Integrated Care System partners, housing and homelessness, justice and the third sectors.

The team you will be joining are engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of work focused on the most disadvantaged populations that is recognized regionally and nationally.

About Us


The Inclusion Health Team's mission is to reduce health inequalities affecting vulnerable groups in the city by influencing and shaping local policy and services.

We aim to drive and facilitate action to address the causes and to mitigate the impact of health inequalities.

We develop evidence and raise the profile of inclusion health groups' needs, we advocate and develop innovative resources and pilot new interventions to improve their health outcomes.

The Role

This role will manage specific projects, from comprehensive needs analyses to public health tools and interventions.

You will be coordinating and influencing work to improve the health and wellbeing of groups who often face significant barriers to accessing mainstream services such as homeless individuals, sex workers, those in contact with the criminal justice system, vulnerable migrants and veterans.

This will involve using your public health knowledge and project management skills to work in partnership across organisational boundaries.

For this, you will be consolidating public health evidence and data and using it to develop project proposals and action plans focused on addressing inclusion health needs.

Skills & Experience

This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who:
has experience of working with a range of stakeholders in supporting Public Health outcomes
understands the role of public health and the inclusion health agenda

has excellent organisational skills and is able to work independently to achieve expected outcomes and deliver quality outputs such as project specifications and plans, public health toolkits, frameworks, needs assessments etc.

has experience of developing, commissioning and coordinating public health projects
has strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in writing briefings, reports, business cases, project documentation
is able to learn, adapt and manage under pressure.
