This is a very exciting opportunity, to develop your specialist knowledge and skills in the areas of universal, targeted and specialist Speech and Language Therapy in the community for children aged years of age.

You will be fully supported to complete your RCSLT competencies in your first role post qualification.


You will be working alongside our skill mixed team including Bands - 5 SLTS and Band 3 SLT assistants as part of the universal A Better Start delivery in Southend as well as developing experience of your first community clinic caseload management in Southend and Rochford.

You will have excellent opportunities for multi-disciplinary working and professional development, including the opportunity to develop group facilitation skills with our Let's Talk A Better Start delivery team.


The successful applicant will have a passion for promoting the dignity and quality of life of children and young people with speech, language and communication needs, be well organised, and have the desire to join a well established paediatric service in South East Essex.

You will receive regular supervision and professional development is positively encouraged.

To assess, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment.

To provide professional advice to others regarding the management and support for children and young people with communication difficulties.

To support the A Better Start Universal and preventative delivery team in Southend to promote the importance of speech, language and communication support with families, other professionals and settings

To communicate condition related information from assessment to service users, carers, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professions.

To work closely with service users, carers and families, agreeing decision making relevant to the patient/client management.


To demonstrate empathy with service users, carers, families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

To develop skills in motivating service users and/or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.

To manage two small community clinic caseloads that consist of a broad range of presentations.

To use knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements/decision making for case management.


To promote a client centred approach that respects the service users needs and opinions and promotes his or her active participation in any intervention and the decision making process associated with it.
