Job Introduction

The starting salary for this position is £9,616.50 per annum for working 18 hours per week, pro-rata to £19,233.
Ruth House is a Surrey County Council children's home supporting children with learning disabilities and autism.

We work together to meet the needs of our looked after children between the ages of 11-18; creating a stable foundation which will prepare them for the next stage of their lives.

We are now looking to recruit a fun, enthusiastic and energetic
Gardener & Handyperson to join our expanding team.

As a
Gardener & Handyperson you will be responsible for routine maintenance and checks of the building and grounds and undertake minor repairs as necessary to ensure our home remains safe and well maintained for the children.


You will need to have:


  • Some transferable DIY and gardening skills
  • The ability to develop positive and appropriate relationships


The role is based at Ruth House in Woking and will encompass working in both the home and the garden.

You will work independently, and as directed, take day-to-day responsibility for the general maintenance, safety and security of the home.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.

Surrey County Council Residential homes can accommodate children up to 18 years of age.

Due to legal requirements set out by the DFE national minimum standards the successful applicant is required to be at least 4 years older than our oldest accommodated child.
