Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full time 40 hours per week post based in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh or Western General Hospital.


Applications are invited for the posts of Advanced Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology at Western General Hospital (WGH), Edinburgh and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE).

These posts will run for one year from August 2024.


These are one year advanced clinical fellowship posts for gastroenterology trainees who have completed their basic gastroenterology training and are independently competent in routine upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy (including endotherapy for acute upper GI bleeding and level 2 polypectomy) as well as clinical work, and who wish to obtain advanced training in specialised clinical and/or endoscopic areas such as advanced endoscopic techniques.

Both hospital sites have a strong track record in advanced training.

The advanced Clinical Fellow post at RIE will spend around 50% of their job plan on service commitment (e.g. clinics, diagnostic endoscopy) and the remaining time is focused around training in hepatobiliary endoscopy (ERCP/EUS).

The advanced Clinical Fellow post at WGH will spend around 50% of their job plan on service commitment (e.g. clinics, diagnostic endoscopy) and the remaining time is spent offering specialist training, audit and research in inflammatory bowel disease and in advanced colonoscopy.

Both posts will participate on the Gastroenterology out of hours on-call rota.

These posts do not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
