Our client is seeking an
energetic and
motivated Fire Inspector, who is
suitably qualified,
knowledgeable and
highly
experienced to join a newly created '
Specialist Fire Safety team'.


Job Purpose:


You will be working as the fire safety expert within a 'Specialist Fire Safety Team' (SFST) in a local authority based within the West Midlands.

SFST sits within Private Rented Housing under the Regulatory and Enforcement Directorate.

Initially the role will require a joined-up approach to finding high rise buildings in scope for remediation, to gather and collect fire safety intelligence, then conduct inspections/ audits to identify existing fire safety threats to residents of privately owned high-rise residential blocks.

Your fire safety expertise is required to assist in how to pursue enforcement action, while working alongside other key enforcement partners, stakeholders, and businesses.

This role is integral to advising the SFST in requiring duty holders to remove, reduce and remediate fire safety risks, and then using a range of enforcement powers to eliminate the risk.

To protect life from existing fire risk, threat and spread.

To ensure our inner-city high rise residential blocks are safe from fire risk, so improving and making a difference to resident's lives.


Personal specification:


  • You will already be working as a fire inspector, or in fire protection, within a fire authority
  • It is essential you have a strong background in fire safety knowledge, experience either within a commercial, or ideally in residential housing
  • It would be desirable to be a fire inspector already involved in complex, or highrise residential buildings
  • Experience in working with the various iterations of approved document in High-Rise buildings would be advantageous
  • You will have expert knowledge of fire safety precautionary measures and systems associated with highrise residential/ complex residential buildings
  • Experienced in inspecting and identifying fire safety hazards, providing expert knowledge, and competence in fire safety matters related to highrise residential buildings
  • You will be selfmotivated, but able to work well in team to provide expert support
  • You will have an approachable, but professional manner, when working with colleagues and businesses, or on conducting inspections and audits, or on multi agency joint visits
  • Experienced at working in partner organisations to include Housing and Fire authorities, Building Control, HSE, other emergency services and working as part of a multiagency team
  • Experience in working on commercial fire safety work
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to verbally influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • It will be essential to have experience of multiagency, stakeholder and partnership working
  • Experience of managing a team would be essential to take a lead on SFST site visits
  • Experience of collaborating and communicating with a wide range of staff, business contacts and residents from varied backgrounds would be crucial
  • Excellent IT skills and computer literacy to include M3 and other software used to record data for the SFST
  • As a team player you will ensure the SFST works collectively and in a professional manner yet be selfmotivated and able to work individually, when needed
  • Ideally you will be able to lead the SFST, sometimes project manage the site visit and have the ability to motivate SFST members in difficult situations
  • During site visits it will be essential to take accurate notes, detailed observations on technical fire safety related findings
  • You will have excellent verbal communication and organisation skills and be able to plainly present and explain technical fire safety details to a range of recipients
  • You will also be able to draft, develop and write up inspection/ audit findings and reports and able to verbally present and explain technical fire safety matters to a range of recipients
  • Excellent in communicating by writing or you will draft, develop and write reports

Requirements:


  • A formal fire qualification from a recognised and approved fire safety institution or respectable body
  • At least 3 years' experience of a Fire Inspector, or alternatively provide adequate proof, or a recognised Fire Safety Engineering qualification
  • Can demonstrate operational experience in carrying out fire safety inspections
  • Competent in Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and have acceptable knowledge of the HHSRS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal
