What you'll be doing


An experienced and detailed Project Planner is needed to be responsible for designing and maintaining the project schedules across all delivery workstreams within our Wholesale Services Function.

This will be in accordance with internal planning and control processes in addition to our new FA1594 contractual requirements.

The Project Planner will be ensuring key projects and programmes objectives are appropriately planned, developed, and implemented across all phases of the project lifecycle.


As the Project Planner you will own the project schedule for the Service Delivery portfolio, supporting Projects Managers, Commercial, Design and Delivery Partners in delivering the scope of complex scheme to time, cost, quality, and compliance.

Being the Project Planner in this position will see you define appropriate Work Breakdown Structures in line with adopted project delivery strategy.


You will co-ordinate and lead cyclical planning reviews and workshops with internal and external project teams to compile master project/programme schedule.

You will also be maintaining performance and contractual baselines, producing critical path analysis on fully resourced and cost loaded project plans, monitoring changes, and reporting on early warnings and variations.


Collating data from multi-disciplined teams and liaising closely with internal and external stakeholders to receive and verify programme information from delivery partners, reviewing schedules and highlighting movements.


Maintaining and analysing schedule information in a detailed programme using Primavera (P6) will be part of your remit, to effectively produce milestone progress reports across core deliverables, and actively working with activity owners to maintain schedule integrity throughout the project lifecycle.


You will be producing high level monthly lookahead reports (1-6 months) via Primavera to highlight projected spend and schedule profiles, working with Business Planners to highlight variances against costs, volumes, and outputs against defined budgets.

Equally, you will be actively identifying and communicating any potential risks, issues, opportunities, and efficiencies to the Project teams, wider Programme Planning and Performance functions.


Working closely with the commercial team, you will be preparing and evaluating contracts and commercial impacts to Thames Water activities within the overall programme, supporting with information for compensation events, engage with contractual matters and in disputes resolutions.


You'll ensure schedules are regularly and consistently updated, enabling accurate and timely transfers of information of relevant plans into core systems to support cost planners and performance reporting requirements, as well as preparing, co-ordinating and presenting project progress updates to internal and external stakeholders where required.


What you should bring to the role

  • Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional standards of presentation of data and information
  • Extensive experience in project planning and schedule management, working across a broad, busy portfolio of work
  • Advanced knowledge of Planning tools ideally within Primavera, (P6) and /or MS Project with ability to train, coach and mentor others in their use
  • Exceptionally analytical and have a good understanding of schedule interfaces and activity dependencies
  • Good working appreciation of Project Management principles (contract, change and risk management)
  • Excellent communicator across all levels, and forges strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, confident in challenging constructively, and influence others' views to optimise performance
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines with the experience in adapting planning skills to various situations

This is a permanent position offering from £44,500 to £60,000 per annum depending on knowledge and experience.
