We are currently seeking to appoint an Academic Library Tutor on a Full-time, permanent basis.


Job Purpose:


Academic Library Tutors are responsible for acquiring, organising, managing and distributing library resources, and ensuring that library provision meets the needs of all its users.


Key responsibilities of the post include:

  • Managing and developing collections of books, journals and electronic media;
  • Maintaining relationships with external bodies such as suppliers/ publishers and authors;
  • Contributing to academic course development and liaising with academic departments;
  • Managing and maintaining resources for reading lists and allocating length of loans;
  • Creating, updating and managing information resources both electronic and printed; selecting, acquiring and cataloguing information using library and information software;
  • Assisting students with literature searches using databases, printed resources and the internet;
  • Assisting students with submission of their assignments on the Student portal;
  • Dealing with user enquiries which may involve oneonone advice sessions;
  • Keeping up to date with relevant debates in the library sector;
  • Participation in professional groups or networks.
  • Tutoring groups and individuals on research techniques and referencing methods;
  • Ensuring the library is compliant with all copyright legislation and ensuring that other users are aware of the appropriate legislation;
  • Managing access by staff and students to photocopying facilities within the library;
  • Cooperate with the academic staff to ensure the course related literature is in the library.
  • Update students and staff about literature available at the library.

Health and Safety/Risk Management

  • All staff are responsible for working with their colleagues to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our students and visitors. This includes complying at all times with the LSST Policies, including Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures, and reporting incidents. The Post holder will have a particular responsibility for being proactive in reporting any breaches of Health and Safety to their line manager/Health & Safety Officer and/or taking immediate action if there is a high risk of injury to users of the LSST service.
  • The Post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:


  • Academic and/or professional qualifications to degree level (a degree in Business or related field is desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (essential)
  • Ability to conduct research to include EBSCO searching is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deliver a consistent and effective service in a busy service environment
  • Experience of working in Higher Education/Further Education (desirable)
