The AURORA project seeks to make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of industry by demonstrating and qualifying large scale cost-efficient integration in at least three CO2-intensive industries: refining, cement, and materials recycling as sectors where other ready alternatives towards climate neutrality do not exist yet.

The AURORA project partners bring together the depth of technical and industrial experience and expertise that can successfully accomplish such an ambitious programme.

Cambridge EPRG leads the social science components of the project. We will carry out interviews, workshops, and public surveys to better understand the political economy of industrial decarbonisation.

The person will focus on the decarbonisation of industrial clusters and should ideally be an expert in at least one of economic geography, energy or applied economics, industrial or technology policy, or geographic information systems.

A PhD in Economics (energy economics, applied economics, economic geography, etc), Public Policy, Geography, Political Science, or other relevant discipline (e.g., public policy, etc) is essential.

Strong quantitative research skills, such as advanced econometrics, experience in designing and carrying out large-scale surveys) is essential. Good writing skills and attention to detail are prerequisite for this role. Strong qualitative research skills such as experience conducting interviews and focus groups is also highly desirable. The person should be comfortable working in interdisciplinary teams including experts in energy, engineering, geoscience and political science.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 30 months in the first instance.
