Research Integrity and Compliance Officer

  • The Research Integrity and Compliance Officer will be based in Research and Innovation Services and will work with the Research Integrity, Governance and Ethics team to provide capacity across all areas of the team's research integrity related activities, spanning all three of the University's colleges (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Biomedical and Life Sciences and Physical Sciences and Engineering). You will support compliance with the Universities UK (UUK) Concordat to Support Research Integrity, implementing relevant University policies and developing information resources and training to ensure best practice. In particular, you will take the lead in working with researchers and professional services colleagues across the University to identify, mitigate and manage risks connected with international collaboration, including the requirements of export control regulations, the National Security and Investment Act and the Nagoya protocol.
  • This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus you can also choose to spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home.   • Key Duties
  • Ensure that the University meets the requirements of the Universities UK Concordat on Support for Research Integrity and to establish systems for reviewing compliance.
  • Providing professional advice and guidance on all areas of research integrity. The role holder will have a particular focus on risk and regulatory issues as they relate to international research collaboration, acting as the central point of contact for researchers, research student supervisors, heads of department, and professional services colleagues.
  • Keeping under regular review, and up to date with, national and international developments, government legislation and regulatory requirements, funder expectations, and sectorwide best practice within the external research governance and research integrity environment and identify actions required of the University.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of research integrity policies and Codes of Practice
  • Where required, ensure that research governance and research integrity training is delivered to the University's staff and students, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements.
  • Leading an institutionwide programme to increase awareness, and ensuring complex regulatory issues are understood, within the academic community in relation to Trusted Research, including export controls, the National Security and Investment Act and other security or regulatory issues and international collaboration risks.
  • Providing expertise and advice on export licensing, the National Security and Investment Act, and the Trusted Research initiative.
  • Taking responsibility for resolving issues independently where they fall within set role objectives related to international research collaboration.
  • Interacting with the University's due diligence processes to assess activity with potential Trusted Research implications, including responding to funding bodies to provide assurance that the University's processes address the requirements of Trusted Research.
  • Establish purposeful networks internally and externally (e.g. as a University representative on the Russell Group Research Integrity Forum and Higher Education Export Control Association). Being a contact point for relevant external bodies such as the Export Control Joint Unit and the Research Collaboration Advice Team
