Job Title:
Workshop Facilitator (Freelance)

Reports To:
Director

Job Location:
Various locations in London

Hours:
Flexible

Salary:
£15 per hour

About Us:

The group setting allows each person to firstly build confidence by sharing work that they have created from nothing, and secondly to build empathy towards other people in their community by hearing their stories in their words.

Wordsmiths' workshops are designed to be inclusive of all abilities and experiences - the goal for each attendee isn't to create a perfectly worded masterpiece, the goal is to enable a creative way to communicate and to understand their own thoughts and emotions.

Role:

The Workshop Facilitator will be a passionate and respectful representative of Wordsmiths, running our Writing For Wellbeing workshops for a number of clients, in a variety of venues across London.

The facilitator will provide enthusiastic and encouraging guidance to the group and endeavour to make a positive impact on every attendee.

Our clients are primarily charities who support adults with a variety of needs and abilities so the Workshop Facilitator must be confident in creating an inclusive environment and working alongside vulnerable or marginalised people.

Our curriculum is fully designed and all materials are provided so there will be no time-consuming prep work before each class.

This is a flexible, freelance role, so you will be able to take on as much or as little work as possible to suit your schedule.

Facilitators are required to invoice Wordsmiths on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on their preference, which we can support you to do if needed.

Workshops are usually 1-2 hours long and can either be one-off classes or 6-week courses.

Workshops primarily take place during the day time, though we will be expanding to a small number of evening classes in the near future.

Responsibilities:

  • To commit to the dates and times of any workshops accepted, and to give as much notice as possible if the need to cancel does arise
  • To make every attendee feel welcomed, included and encouraged regardless of ability, language or background
  • To ensure consistency across Wordsmiths' services by following the workshops outlined in the Training Manual
  • To always communicate with clients and attendees in a way that reflects _Wordsmiths' _values
  • To collect feedback forms from every attendee and promptly forward these to the director

About You:

  • A confident speaker with experience managing groups of up to 10 people
  • Experience (either lived or professional) with a variety of support needs, mental health difficulties and abilities
  • An interest in creative writing you do not need to be an expert, but we are looking for people who understand how beneficial writing can be to our wellbeing.
  • A sunny attitude, patience and a passion for helping people.

Support Given:

  • Full training day and provision of Training Manual which outlines all activities in the curriculum
  • Shaddowing an existing Workshop Facilitator until you feel comfortable to lead
  • Supervision phone calls following every workshop or course
  • Relevant online and external training
  • The opportunity to be involved in other areas of the organisation
