The File Handler Assistant will be assigned to work with a File Handler(s) within a team in an open plan environment.

The role involves working on post litigated fraud cases on behalf of a wide range of Insurance clients.

Whilst the Assistant will not have ownership of any of their own files, they will be responsible for carrying out individual file handling tasks on cases for and in support of the File Handler(s).


Key Accountabilities

  • The work handled by the Assistant will be governed by the caseload of the File Handler that they are assigned to, these include:
All key tasks as defined within Stage 1 entry level along with
Assisting the File Handler to follow the Court timetable to include drafting basic pleadings/court documents

  • Procedural drafting
  • Defences (basic)
  • Part 18 Requests for Information
  • Consent Orders
  • Trial preparation documentation
Evidential Reviews and Assessments

  • Reviews of incoming disclosure and documentary evidence
  • Reviews of incoming financial disclosure and documentary evidence
  • Reviews of evidence obtained from internal/external expert suppliers
Strategic Reviews and Assessments

  • On incoming evidence by way of Disclosure and Witness Exchange
Settlement negotiations

  • Review of incoming Part 36 Offers/other settlement proposals
  • Formulating appropriate settlement strategies
Any other tasks as they arise during the course of assisting the File Handler to efficiently run their caseload
To ensure compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations

Working Hours
35 hours per week
Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.
Primary location for this role is Parklands, Bolton office. This is a hybrid working role working 1 day in the office and 4 days from home.


Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Established interest in law either through further education (e.g. LPC or ILEX) or experience within a process driven legal environment
  • Experience of drafting court documents and understanding of processes
  • Good telephone and communication skills with people at all levels inside and outside the business
  • An ability to organise and prioritise tasks using initiative
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to reprioritise and delegate effectively when required
  • An ability to analyse evidence
  • Good Literacy and IT skills
  • Good team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met
  • Ability to work effectively within the Keoghs Shared Behaviour framework

Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and investigation plans to retain ownership of tasks
