About the role:


We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Specialist to join the Chen Group for a 3-year fixed term contract in the Cellular Genetics Programme.

You will collaborate with the team on the implementation single-cell sequencing protocols and provide support on other molecular/cellular biology techniques.


Key responsibilities of the role:


  • Carry out both routine and bespoke laboratory protocols and procedures as required in a consistent highly efficient manner.
  • Use their expertise and knowledge to implement, test and optimise new genomic editing and sequencing technologies as required by the research questions of the team.
  • Work within the team on the development of novel singlecell sequencing methods to understand tissue heterogeneity.
  • Supervisory responsibility for the daytoday operation of laboratory, resolving any issues arising, and scheduling/planning work of others.

About Us:

The Chen Group is focused on Single-cell multi-omics tissue mapping and organoid-based disease modelling. You will join a multidisciplinary team of genomic biologists, cell biologists and bioinformaticians.


About You:


You will be experienced in molecular biology and cell biology techniques with the ability to test new protocols and collaborate with internal stakeholders.

As a Technical Specialist, you will have the opportunity to join our Technician's Commitment which provides training and development as well as networking events, workshops to help support you in your career.


Essential Skills:


  • Degree in Biological Sciences, or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience with core molecular/cellular biology techniques, including cell culture, RT & qPCR and RNA/DNA extraction, library prep and similar.
  • Molecular Biology/Cell Biology specialism
  • Adapting to changing priorities and protocols for the team.
  • Ability to learn new protocols and then run them independently.
  • Ability to keep good uptodate records.
  • Proven experience of working within a team.
  • Demonstrates inclusivity and respect for all.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail and systematic record keeping for sample and experimental tracking

Desirable Skills:


  • Experience working with animal or human tissue samples.

Other Information:


Salary per annum:
£39,343-£46,741 (dependent upon skills and experience).
