Project Support Officer

£350 per day

Akton Resourcing are currently recruiting for a Project Support Officer to work with the Met Office on a 6-month contract.

We are looking for an exceptional Project Support Officer to join our Product Migration and Legacy System Retirement (PMLSR) programme.

As the Met Office is developing and building a new Supercomputer it is necessary to reduce organisational risk and complexity by retiring legacy systems and migrating to alternative means of production and dissemination.

The projects within PMLSR are designed to understand the complexity of the current systems, identify alternative means of delivery and to understand and mitigate for the potential impact of migrating or retiring these systems.


Main Responsibilities:


  • Planning and scheduling
  • Ensure systems are in place to enable effective planning and scheduling. Track and monitor actions within the Programme Dependency tracker for all internal stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and reporting
  • Manage project controls, reporting to the Project Manager about the project status. Develop project performance reports.
  • Knowledge Management
  • Ensure organisational tasks are carried out efficiently. Produce and maintain an information store, including product tracker, retirement and decommissioning tracker and migration trackers.
  • Resources
  • Lead a team responsible for identifying, developing and deploying resources. Manage workforce planning, providing information for effective decision making to the Project Manager. Procurement of supplies and services related to project support within Delegated Financial Authority limits.
  • Stakeholder
  • Manage and engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Ensure working group actions are tracked and report progress. Generate information on blockers and escalate to the working group and to the Programme Manager.
  • Financial control
  • Manage project spend and contribute to the compilation of budgets.
  • Risk and issues
  • Lead Potential risk areas, working with risk manager and escalating as appropriate.

Essential Criteria:


  • Extensive project support experience, working within a change programmes and project environments. Understanding of Waterfall and Agile (preferred) project delivery will be beneficial. Foundation level Project Management qualification would be useful.
  • Proven ability to prioritise a challenging workload with excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of successful liaison with stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with partners and suppliers with a proven ability to develop joint processes and guidance whilst still adhering to Met Office policies.
