The role
As a Mechanical Calibrator, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly skilled team at Babcock Clyde, advance your knowledge and broaden your expertise conducting calibration activities on a variety of Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).


Day to day, you'll will carry out calibration, fault diagnosis, adjustments, and repairs across a wide range of measurement parameters in accordance with approved procedures.

Utilising your skill set by instructing and mentoring employees who are undertaking Apprenticeships within the business

Calibration, fault diagnosis, adjustment and repairs of various types of TMDE e.g., Torque Wrenches, Pressure Gauges, Force gauges, various Micrometres types etc.


  • Produce Calibration Checklists for new models of TMDE and assist in the assessment of new Calibration Procedures.
  • Perform maintenance duties including equipment inspection and repair.
  • Implementation of the Company Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies in the Instrumentation and Calibration area of the business ensuring that Risk Assessments are carried out which lead to safe working attitudes and practices.
  • Achieving successful, timely completion of work packages, meeting quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with the Company's Cost, Time and Quality Requirements.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Calibrator:

  • Previous experience working in Calibration, Instrumentation or Metrology. Ideally have experience in a Mechanical / Marine Engineering, Assembly, Production, Process Control or Manufacturing environment with an understanding of measurement techniques.
  • Clear understanding of the principles which underpin the process of calibrating equipment and a sound knowledge of calibration processes whilst demonstrating a diligent approach when following procedures.
  • Wider experience of Metrology or experience of using dedicated Calibration Software would be desirable.
  • Experience of Maintenance Procedures, Risk, and COSHH Assessments and Safe Systems of Work with excellent team working and interpersonal skills.
This role is based full time on site at Faslane, Helensburgh


Qualifications for the Mechanical Calibrator:


  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 or NVQ / City & Guilds equivalent or hold an HNC or above in a Mechanical / Marine Engineering discipline with relevant work experience.
