Job Introduction

Robert Gordon's College is seeking a full-time permanent Head of Department PE to replace the current postholder who is moving to another promoted role.

This role is available from August 2023.

Main Responsibilities
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT, PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Due to the internal promotion of the current Head of Physical Education, this position will become available from August 2023.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual looking to take the next steps in leadership to work with a highly committed team, driving forward excellent teaching and learning in a innovative department that provides a sector-leading educational experience which promotes pride and value within our community.

The successful individual should aim to create an environment which delivers opportunities to participate and serve, allowing all involved to build characteristics such as leadership, curiosity, self organisation, awareness and resilience when facing the challenges in PE and Sporting activities.

Resulting in an appreciation of transferable life skills and an investment in a healthy lifestyle.

The Head of PE has full responsibility for the delivery of the Physical Education and curricular Sport from 3-18 throughout the core school day (8.30am - 3.30pm).

This is a full time, permanent post.

The PE Department has 14 members of Physical Education staff including the Head of Department and two Assistant Heads of Department (one Junior School and one Senior School).

In addition there are 3 full-time Sport coaches, 5 swimming instructors and multiple ad-hoc coaches who all contribute to the delivery of the curriculum for which the Head of PE is responsible.

A PE & Sports administrator supports the department.

The Head of PE will work very closely with the Director of Sport and all members of the PE department are required to participate in the delivery of co curricular sport, including a minimum of two after school training sessions and Saturday fixtures.

PE and Sport is a major part of life at RGC.

As well as our PE, Swimming, and S&C facilities at our Schoolhill campus in the city centre, we have a 39-acre PE and Sport ground at Countesswells to the west end of the city.

We are ambitious to invest in our PE and Sport facilities at both Schoolhill and Countesswells in the next few years and the Head of PE will play a role in this.

PE is taught from 3-18 on both sites and has a strong core curriculum in place. The department is currently growing its certification provision and this is proving very popular with our pupils. We currently offer National 5 in S3 and S4. Higher is currently offered in S6 but will also be available in S5 from the start of session 2024/25. The successful Head of PE would also have the opportunity to introduce Advanced Higher PE in the future.

Although responsible to the Head of College, the Head of Department's direct link with the Senior Leadership Team is via the Head of Senior School and the Head of Junior School.

The College and Department are committed to providing excellent professional development opportunities for staff.
