The Role

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint x2 new Lecturer/Senior Lecturers in Electrification (Teaching & Research). We are widely recognised for the quality of our teaching, research, and industry engagement.

This an exciting opportunity for an ambitious emerging electrical and/or control engineer to join our well established electrical power research and teaching community.

You will be expected to conduct research into power electronics, drives and control that addresses the major challenges of the "electric revolution", and to deliver research-led teaching in the School of Engineering.

You will also be expected to support the Newcastle University Institute of Electrification and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (IESAM).

IESAM is a consortium which will develop and deliver flexible, high-quality Advanced and Digital Manufacturing training modules for the Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) sector.

The consortium, led by Newcastle University, consists of the North East Institute of Technology (a partnership of Further Education colleges, Newcastle University and industry led by New College Durham) and other universities and colleges in the region.

The positions are offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis with an immediate start date, tenable until 31st July 2025.

Key Accountabilities
⦁ Initiate and implement a programme of research of a national standard (with growing international standard for appoint at SL level); communicate, publish, and promote research outputs and impact
⦁ Identify and obtain funding from appropriate sources to support the programme of research
⦁ Contribute to the delivery of core modules using appropriate instruction, assessment and pedagogic methods
⦁ Supervise students' projects and dissertations and supervise students and staff engaged on higher degree work by research
⦁ Undertake curriculum development work, planning, development and evaluation of courses and course materials, and supervise course provision
⦁ Participate in the administrative and management processes of the School
⦁ Carry out appropriate impact, outreach and engagement activities with academic, educational, learned/professional and industry partners and the general public, for the benefit of the University and the discipline
⦁ Represent the group/discipline on School, Faculty or University committees

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
⦁ Subject knowledge of Power Electronics, Drives, and Control Systems
⦁ Research experience and reputation commensurate with career stage, including publications in high quality and nationally/internationally recognised research journals, grant capture and typical esteem indicators
⦁ Clear and feasible plans to secure research income from a variety of funding streams
⦁ Evidence of experience in lecturing and/or delivering practical skills training
⦁ Demonstrable knowledge of teaching and learning methods, techniques, including online approaches
