Thanks to the generous support of the William Alderson Memorial Trust, the WEA has an exciting opportunity for two part-time (0.5 FTE) Project Coordinators to join our Yorkshire and Humber team supporting two community partners to deliver green initiatives with their local communities.

This is a 12-month fixed term role (possibility of extension of - 6 months, dependent on funding)

The Project Coordinators will work closely with local communities and partner organisations in Hull and Grimsby to develop innovative, community-led activity centred on green / sustainable principles, which will enable local residents to gain the skills and confidence to build and grow successful and enduring environmental projects in their neighbourhoods.

It is anticipated that the Grimsby activity will focus on a new food-growing initiative; the Hull activity has yet to be determined.

Each Project Coordinator will be responsible for one area, Hull or Grimsby.

Working closely with residents and partner organisations, with the support of your manager and a project steering group, you will have responsibility for developing a programme of personal development and skills-based courses which will give participants the tools they need to create and sustain an environmental project in and for their communities.

Key areas of responsibility:


  • Reporting to the Area Education Manager and Partner organisation project manager, the Project Coordinator is responsible for delivering innovative grassroots community projects focusing on environmental sustainability.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Undertake work with a range of partner organisations in Hull and Grimsby engaged in the project to develop and deliver project activities around environmental sustainability and community growing.
  • Work with partner organisations and WEA staff to deliver codesign and coproduction sessions with community members to understand their needs and wants around education sessions, events and courses.
  • Work with the Education Coordinators for Hull and Grimsby and WEA tutors to develop taster sessions, courses and events based on results of codesign sessions, and helping to consolidate WEA activity in the target communities.
  • Establish an understanding and ongoing monitoring of resources needed for project activities and work with Project Team, Education staff and community partners to ensure that any project spend remains within the project budget and that relevant administrative procedures are followed around budget management.
  • Provide line management support for tutors and volunteers.
  • Work with WEA tutors to support delivery, including the recruitment of new tutors as required by the project.
  • Organise tutor and volunteer training as required to ensure WEA quality assurance and adherence to WEA policies.
  • Ensure all relevant administration including course / activity documentation procedures are followed, working with the Education Coordinator and other WEA staff.
  • Promote the WEA and encourage student involvement in the organisation and promote progression onto other WEA educational provision.
  • Provide reports on the delivery of project activities where required to the project Steering Group and the grant funder, William Alderson Memorial Trust.
  • Undertake such duties as reasonably requested by your manager.
