Downpatrick

30 hours per week (including weekends & bank holidays)

£11.11 p/h (Mon - Friday)

£15.00 p/h (Sat)

Temporary Vacancy

Job Summary:

Act as first point of contact between patients, relatives and medical and nursing staff.

Effectively communicate with patients, ambulance staff; medical and nursing staff in the delivery of high quality, timely, safe and effective care.


Provide a high level of clerical/administrative support to multi-disciplinary team both within their own team and to outside agencies, e.g.

social services, mental health services and assist all patients whilst being treated in accordance with departmental guidelines. They work as an integral member of a team under the supervision of their immediate line manager.


Given the sensitive nature of the Department environment, staff must at all times act with integrity, respecting the needs of the patient and adhering to strict codes of confidentiality and data protection.

Communication in difficult circumstances with anxious, ill or injured patients/relatives, various ethnic groups, individuals with hearing disability, emotionally unstable, confused, violent and abusive individuals.


Key Duties
The post holder will be required to carry out a range of duties which may include all or some of the following:

  • 1. To maintain and update the computerised system e.g. eEMS (electronic Emergency Medical System) including the registration of patients attending the Emergency Department, linking details with the Patient Administration System (PAS) and the Health & Care index, amending and up-dating where necessary, ensuring accurate patient demographic details are recorded.
  • Organising and prioritising own workload on daily basis within the ED reception. Processing and collating information whilst dealing with frequent interruptions, re-prioritising workload where necessary. Dealing with indirect, distressing or emotional situations.
  • Monitoring patients on arrival and bringing to the attention of the Multi-Disciplinary Team those who are too ill to await triage, e

g Patients requiring priority ECG:
Infectious Diseases Protocol; Stroke patients and Head injuries - using initiative where required. Following protocol regarding patients attending with possible exposure to hazardous substances in accordance with training received. Monitoring patients whilst in waiting room.


Validation and verification of all ED records, which will then be photocopied accordingly and prepared for posting to patient's GPs and Health Visitors.

Scanning of ED Records relating to each patient attendance into eEMS and resolving scanning issues.


  • Booking appointments using eEMS, PAS or telephone.

Essential Criteria:

4 GCSEs at Grades A-C including English Language and Maths or equivalent and 1 years' experience in a public facing admin and clerical role


OR
2 years' experience in a public facing admin and clerical role.


Salary:
£11.11 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
