This is an exciting opportunity to work within a team of multi-disciplinary professionals at Hertfordshire County Council, Ofsted rated Outstanding We are seeking an ETE worker to join our Youth Justice Service (YJS).

Your primary responsibility will be to provide crucial support to young people aged 10-18 who are open to Youth Justice (YJ).

A specialist worker in the SASH Youth Justice Service.

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Ensure education interventions are developed for children and young people.
  • Develop open and effective working relationships with schools, colleges, and training providers.
  • Work with education providers, integration team and SEND team to promote the needs of young people.
  • Work with young people, their families and/or carers and a range of agencies and employers across statutory, voluntary, and business sectors to ensure access or return to suitable ETE provision.
  • Work closely with young people and their case manager to encourage access to the accredited learning City and Guilds modules.

The SASH Youth Justice ETE worker:

  • Supports young people assessed as high risk, including those being released from custody and on intense community-based interventions.
  • Provides opportunities for learning by having lead responsibility in delivery and development of the City and Guilds programme locally, in conjunction with Essex Youth Service.
  • Is a single point of contact for young people in the YJS with SEN.
  • Sits on relevant multiagency panels, such as the Youth Diversion Panel, Risk and Safeguarding Panel and Inclusion Panels.
  • Works with Services for Young People (SfYP) to share and access careers guidance and opportunities for participation in youth work or employability programmes.
  • Based within our central SASH YJ Team represents Hertfordshire Youth Justice at the Eastern Region ETE forum as required.
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification (teaching, youth work, ETE guidance or social work).
  • Evidence of and desire to engage with continued professional development.
  • Experience of assessing needs and risk, whilst being child focused.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from a range of professional backgrounds.
  • Delivery of personalised interventions which meet individual needs.
  • Able to organise own work and plan taking account of priorities and being flexible as required.
  • An understanding of the impact of trauma on children and young people
  • Knowledge of special educational needs (SEND) and the EHCP process.
  • Proven track record of engaging and motivating challenging young people.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to record effectively and analyse information and data.

Additional Information

  • Good IT, organisation and communication skills are essential as you will need to record data on a case management information system, produce reports, and correspond with young people, parents, and partners.
  • You will be required to travel across the county so access to a vehicle is essential.
  • Knowledge of relevant ETE and YJ legislation

  • At least 2 years' experience working with children or young people aged 1017 years.
  • Experience of working with challenging young people with multiple and/or complex needs.

English Fluency:

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post (for those whose language is a signed language the provision of a sign language interpreter who speaks English to the necessary standard of fluency will be required).
