Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Nursing Placement Officer with experience of veterinary nursing training and education to join our Veterinary Nursing Team here at our Gateshead campus.

This role will be working 18.5 hrs on a fixed term contract until August 2024.


We are seeking an individual who will be responsible for visiting training practices for veterinary nursing students and who has sector experience and knowledge, specifically in veterinary nursing.

Main Purpose of the role


To ensure the provision of quality assurance and placement related guidance to support veterinary nursing students and their assigned clinical supervisors in the completion of their qualification and the mandatory extended work-based placement/employment aspect.


The promotion and maintenance of strong links between training practices, students, teaching staff and course managers through the tutorial, placement and apprenticeship visit process.


Adherence of awarding and regulatory body requirements, apprenticeship and governance associations, completion of records associated with this support and ensuring reliability and accuracy in documentation and record keeping.

Where required, pastoral support, referral sign-posting and care for students.


The postholder will have the use of an office space including a desk, landline telephone and access to a laptop/computer should it be required.

Although, it is recommended that all employees have their own work equipment in place.


Key Tasks / responsibilities:

All tasks to be carried out in a consistent manner with the corporation's culture.

  • To provide on and offsite support for workbased placement learning in veterinary nursing including clinical coach/supervisor support and training, student support and reviews, progress with workbased learning objectives, quality assurance of the evidence resulting. This may involve travel to varying locations across the country.
  • Provide pastoral care to students through a tutorial system.
  • Ensure work place compliance with health and safety guidelines
  • Manage the administrative processes associated with Training Practice and student support.
  • Actively participate in promotional and engagement activities to grow the provision and placements available. Attendance at external and college marketing events.
