Role purpose:


The Vodafone Business Platforms & Solutions organisation is primarily focused on designing and delivering high quality products and customer solutions.

A key part of the VBPS delivery strategy is the transformation to Agile ways of working based upon the SAFe framework.

The Senior Agile Coach is a key role within the VBPS Lean Agile Centre of Excellence (LACE).

In the role, the Agile Coach will work with the Transformation Lead and other Agile Coaches across Vodafone to lead the SAFe transformation, coach and train teams in agile ways of working.


The Agile Coach will typically

  • Exhibit the behaviours of a Lean-Agile Leader and champion a Lean-Agile Mindset.
  • Collaborate with members of other Vodafone LACE teams including the Enterprise LACE to drive the aligned implementation of Agile ways of working.
  • Train, coach and mentor teams to implement SAFe.
  • Conduct Value Stream Mapping exercises and design delivery team structures.
  • Step in to perform key roles on an Agile Release Train while resource gaps are filled e.g. acting as Release Train Engineer.
  • Facilitate teams' progress toward their goals
  • The Agile Coach is a facilitator and is continuously engaged in challenging the old norms of development to improve performance in the areas of quality, predictability, flow, and velocity.
  • Lead team efforts in relentless improvement
  • Help the teams improve and take responsibility for their actions; facilitate retrospectives. Teach problemsolving techniques and helps the team become better problemsolvers for themselves.
  • Promote SAFe quality and DevOps practices.

Key accountabilities:


Working alongside the Transformation Lead

  • Evangelise the VB/VBPS agile transformation and guide the organisation through the agile journey and maturity growth.
  • Define and refine the organisation's agile principles, practices, standards. Lead SAFe events e.g. PI Planning, ART Syncs, Portfolio Syncs, Strategic Portfolio Reviews.
  • Create understanding and secure support for the SAFe implementation approach from senior management from D&IT, Networks and Local Markets.
  • Mentor, coach and train all levels of the organisation on agile principles, practices, roles, artefacts and ceremonies to maintain consistency of adoption and continuously improve performance.
  • Deliver SAFe training (all core courses plus at least 2 specialist courses e.g. RTE, DevOps, Architecture, Advanced Product Management.)
  • Champion the adoption of agile tools (Jira, Confluence and Jira Align) and core agile adoption measurements to evaluate the success of the implementation and inform the evolution of the VBPS SAFe implementation.
  • Establish and contribute to Communities of Practice to develop and share understanding of core SAFe practices and principles.
