About the Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic research assistant to carry out routine laboratory protocols and procedures.

You will work as part of the support team providing solutions for the Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutations Programme led by Peter Campbell and other members of faculty at the Sanger Institute.

This position is for a 2 year fixed term contract.


You will be responsible for:


To carry out routine laboratory protocols and procedures as required in a consistent and highly efficient manner, while checking and recording QC, and maintaining a high quality of work.

Monitor laboratory resources, re-ordering where necessary to ensure stock levels are maintained, to help keep the laboratory running as efficiently as possible.


Essential Skills:


  • Degree or equivalent level qualification in a biological science.
- theoretical understanding of molecular biology techniques e.g. nucleic acid isolation and purification, and PCR.

  • Theoretical understanding of genome engineering techniques e.g. CRISPR/Cas
  • Theoretical understanding of NGS.
  • Capable of working to a schedule, and delivering a variety of tasks simultaneously to agreed deadlines and standards.
  • Able to take instruction, and work to guidelines and SOPs, with appropriate use of initiative when necessary.
  • Able to work both as part of a team and also independently, once appropriate training and guidance have been provided.
  • Good communication skills to allow accurate exchange of information.
  • Good computer skills with experience of standard office software (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Salary per annum:
£25,752-£30,593
