Are you a confident, experienced Finance Officer / Bookkeeper looking for a part-time position with hours to suit you?


We are seeking someone to take responsibility for all of our financial reporting, from day-to-day recording to liaison with our accountant and auditor.


You will have responsibility for pulling together all things financial, and will be our in-house expert, ensuring compliance with our own finance systems and our regulatory requirements.

You will be well-organised and able to manage your own workload without direct supervision.

Your attention to detail will be exceptional, and you will have a strong understanding of the confidentiality necessary in this type of work.

16 hours per week, at your choice of regular times between 8.30am and 6pm Monday to Friday, including at least 4 hours on Mondays.

£14.30 per hour.

Job Description:
  • To ensure the accurate administration of all financial transactions including invoicing, payments and the operation of payroll, providing guidance to other staff as necessary.
  • To ensure the provision of a pension that meets current legislation and is appropriate to the terms and conditions of participating staff.
  • To ensure the accurate calculation of tax and other revenue / customs reliefs and liabilities, to complete returns, and to prepare payments for authorisation.
  • To ensure that the Chief Executive's delegation of budgets is upheld throughout the financial year and that all payment requests are signed off by the relevant budget holder.
  • To ensure that cashflow is sufficient to meet anticipated needs.
  • To manage administrative relationships with YMCA Doncaster's online payments providers, bankers and investment manager.
  • To provide quarterly information showing performance against budget.
  • To liaise with the accountant and auditor to oversee the completion of annual report and accounts, and to ensure that final queries, amendments and signoff are completed by a fixed deadline.
  • To ensure that the regulator of social housing is provided with a copy of the YMCA's accounts in accordance with their requirements.
  • To provide financial input and knowledge to staff engaged in planning and launching new work.
  • Other reasonable duties in keeping with the role.
Person Specification

  • A finance / accountancy qualification recognised in the UK, or significant evidence of 'qualification by experience' covering the full range of technical finance responsibilities.
  • Able to comply with the HMRC's requirements as a 'fit and proper person', current details of which are available from HMRC.
  • Experience of taking full responsibility for an electronic bookkeeping system (we use Xero), including timely and accurate data entry and prompt provision of figures showing performance against budget.
  • Able to administer payroll including managing deductions, pensions and the resolving of any complexities.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Excel to a high standard.
  • Understanding of financial issues particular to UK charities, including reporting requirements and VAT / partial exemption matters.
  • Able to demonstrate organisational skill and to work in a standalone role without close supervision.
  • Experience of maintaining confidentiality and appropriate relationships.
  • Able to plan work / annual leave around the financial year, including quarter end reporting and the preparation and submission of accounts.
  • An interest in the work and values of YMCA Doncaster.
