ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAMME:
CLINICAL NUTRITION & INTESTINAL FAILURE


Applications are invited for a one-year Advanced Training Programme (ATP) commencing September 2023 at Salford Care Organisation, Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, which houses one of the UK's two National Reference Centres for Intestinal Failure.


You will spend 12 months at the Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford Care Organisation Hospital, providing medical care for patients with complex type 2 and type 3 intestinal failure.

They will form part of an expert multidisciplinary team, including IF physicians, dieticians, nurse specialists, surgeons, psychologists and pharmacists. Clinical experience will also be gained in the management of people with complex inflammatory bowel disease and neurogastroenterological conditions.

It is expected that you will contribute to departmental research and quality improvement activities, under appropriate guidance.


Main duties of the job:

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a high calibre Intestinal Failure Fellow for a 12-month post.


This post is a full-time appointment for Gastroenterology trainees by the Intestinal Failure Unit, Salford Care Organisation, Northern Care Alliance.

It would be suitable as part of StR specialist training, or for a Specialist Registrar seeking Out of Programme Experience, assuming agreement with the relevant Deanery is obtained (this needs discussion with the Training Programme Director).

Applications will be considered from those at other stages of training.

The role can also be adapted for a post-CCT applicant aiming for a Consultant role with a specialist interest in intestinal failure/clinical nutrition or advanced inflammatory bowel disease.


The current post is designed to support the care of patients with intestinal failure, consistent with the advanced nutrition training curriculum of the JRCPTB/SAC.

Clinical activity in Salford Royal Hospital will be supervised by Professor Simon Lal, Clinical Lead of Salford Intestinal Failure Unit (IFU).

The timetable includes advanced training in nutrition, the management of intestinal failure, as well as histopathology, radiology and teaching sessions.

The successful applicant will only have duties on the IFU on-call rota.
