As a FTSE100 organisation we are responsible for manufacturing ingredients which are used in a range of industry sectors, from Pharmaceuticals to Crop Protection and Cosmetics.

With our Global Head Offices in Goole, East Yorkshire we have over 6,000 staff working across the globe and due to an upcoming retirement, we have a vacancy for a Head of Global Quality Assurance.


Reporting into the Group SHEQ and Operations Efficiency Director you will be tasked with creating and leading a corporate policy and 3-5-year quality strategy across all our geographical regions to embed continuous improvements, capture best practice and drive harmonisation across 40+ R&D and manufacturing sites.


This is a role for an experienced Senior Manager who can indirectly lead a global quality team and embed a quality culture based on empowerment, authenticity and collaboration, within a multi-matrixed organisation and can be based either remotely or at one of our main manufacturing sites / office locations.


Who we're looking for:


  • Degree qualified with prior experience in a regional and/or global quality role within the Chemicals, Life Science or Consumer Care sectors
  • Demonstratable track record of creating and implementing a matured quality strategy across multiple manufacturing sites
  • High level of curiosity with the ability to champion and embed a continuous improvement culture within quality focused on 'Right First Time' mentalities
  • Data driven in delivery and able to use data to drive decision making
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to engage and lead cross functional teams and steer decision making at executive level
  • Highly empathetic and inclusive leader with the ability to understand the needs of others and support regional teams achieve their goals
  • Experience with relevant regulatory bodies (e.g FDA), and GMP standards highly desirable

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the QA systems and infrastructure are developed and managed both functionally and locally to comply with Group Policy, applicable standards (e.g. ISO, GMP) customer and applicable regulatory expectations.
  • Identify suitable standards, best practices and integrate these into Croda's culture with the objective of enhancing the existing quality systems and mitigating risks from poor quality products and poor service to customers.
  • Influence effectively with Sector Presidents, MDs, VPs and Site Directors to act as a champion for the Group Quality Policy and strategy, both for manufacturing operations as well as all other supply chain functions.
  • Define metrics to drive improvement on product quality, service and delivery
  • Use commercial acumen to balance risk mitigations against the potential rewards
  • Devise appropriate leading and lagging indicators and use audits, customer complaints and corrective and preventive action processes to ensure the Group moves from reactive to proactive.
  • Identify and implement methods for Global QA managers to harmonise systems and share best practices across the Group.
  • Implement monitoring processes to measure the implementation of the policy and strategy, and to provide feedback to review and revise the policy and strategy.
  • Motivate and provide coaching and training to personnel globally on the use of the designated standards, QA, GMP and in other areas of competency.
  • Anticipate emerging high level risks and challenges to the organisation by keeping aware of business and external trends, and be proactive in dealing with them before they arise or get too big.
  • Represent the Quality function globally with key customers (multinationals) and trade associations.
  • Sign Quality Agreements with customers on behalf of the entire Group and manage special projects to enhance reputation with them (e.g. audit outcomes).
  • Contribute to Trade Association deliverables (standards, position papers etc.) and engage in advocacy with governments and regulators both in writing and in person.
  • Judge the impact of these activities, new legislation etc. on a group basis and recommend actions to the business and cascade the knowledge to relevant personnel globally.
