The Role


The Manufacturing Process Engineer role is to design, develop and validate manufacturing/assembly processes for projects working across a broad range of technology departments and industrial sectors - based within the MTC's Workshop.


Duties and responsibilities include:
Working with design teams to execute effective design for manufacture/assembly to meet project milestones.
Developing and validating manufacturing and assembly processes working alongside engineering teams and external project partners/customers.
Leading the creation of facility layouts to meet the needs of the manufacturing and assembly process, working with other functions (e.g. estates, H&S, simulation teams etc) to ensure layout is feasible and effective.
Creating process documentation such as Assembly Instructions, production method and sequence, PFMEAs, process flow charts and control plans.

Managing and delivering prototype and pre-production build activities to support validation of the manufacture and assembly processes, utilising our Operations teams as appropriate.

Co-ordinating procurement activities (internal and external) to ensure all materials, components and tooling is available for build trials.

Owning and driving the resolution of manufacturing and assembly issues identified during development/validation of processes to ensure robust solutions are found that work for the end to end process, escalating to Project leads where appropriate.

Leading the improvement of manufacturing processes considering safety, quality, cost, efficiency and process flow.
Supporting the project team to deliver key milestones and acts as a Technical lead for manufacturing/assembly.


The Person
Degree qualified in Engineering, have an Industrial based qualification or equivalent experience in Manufacturing discipline.
Experience of developing and producing method of manufacture along with process development.

Ability to translate customer requirements/models and technical drawings into a Method and Sequence of Manufacture/Assembly and able to develop flow charts and associated documentation.

Experience of leading design for manufacture/assembly assessments and PFMEAs with cross functional teams.
Experience working in complex assembly environments utilising using a combination of manual, semi-automated and automated assembly processes.
Basic lean knowledge including VSM, line balance, etc.
