The Role:


To assist the Master in observing Company operating procedures and maintaining the Safety Management System on board the vessel, with due regard to the protection of the marine environment.


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Bridge Watch keeping, whilst keeping a navigational watch, Deck Officers are to comply with the Company's Navigational Instructions, the Master's Standing Orders for Bridge Watch keeping Officers and the Night Orders.
  • The maintenance of navigational charts and other Hydro graphic Office publications.
  • Operational /contractual duties that will normally be undertaken under the direction of the Chief Officer and in accordance with the Company's operational Instructions, Owner's requirements, and charter party stipulations
  • The Second Officer shall ensure that all applicable regulations, Company and charterers requirements are complied with during all operations.
  • As an officer on board encourage full understanding and implementation of the management system by all members of the Deck department.
  • Maintain safety standards during any general deck works, working within other departments as instructed by the Company.
  • Ensure that operations are conducted in compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, Company policy, plans and procedures.
  • Participates and leads (if applicable) Toolbox talks prior to the commencement of any work activity.
  • Ensuring that personnel engaged in a work activity have the necessary skills and that there are sufficient personnel for the assigned task.
  • Ensuring that the correct equipment and system of work is in use and that the place of work is safe.
  • Ensuring that safety equipment is available and properly used and that the conditions of any relevant Permit to Work are adhered to.
  • Direct involvement in creating risk assessments and help ensure the findings are communicated to all personnel associated with the task and identified controls are complied with.
  • Ensure all safety devices provided are utilized and maintained, personal protective equipment is worn and used in the appropriate manner, safety rules are observed and safe working practices applied.
  • Assist with maintaining awareness of subcontractor activities and procedures including emergency procedures, interfaces and associated risks.
  • Reporting to the Safety Officer of all accidents, incidents and hazardous occurrences, including environmental incidents.

Qualifications & Experience:

Must hold:

  • Valid certificate of medical fitness for seafarers, such as the ENG1 or equivalent.
  • Sea Survival/Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Code-Table A-VI/11)
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (CPSC) (STCW Code-Table A-VI/21)
  • Basic Fire Fighting Certificate (STCW Code-Table A-VI/12)
  • Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (STCW Code-Table A-VI/14)
  • Medical Care (Medical First aid STCW Table A V1/41)
  • Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PSDS) Certificate
  • Second Officer Deck Certificate II/
  • GMDSS operator
  • ECDIS General
  • ARPA
  • NARAS O
  • To qualify for the Chief Officer role:
  • Deck Certificate II/2


This role will be based out of Grimsby and operate a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off rotation, there are also travel expenses as part of the package.
