The ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) team are looking for ROV Supervisor to lead the ROV team as part of the wider SALMO (Salvage and Marine Operations) department.


  • Our SALMO team is the lead across the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for the provision of marine salvage and emergency response. Our specialists including Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, Naval Architects, Environmental Scientists, ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) Pilots, AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) Operators and Divers provide a centre of expertise for subsea activities and marine operations. Our operations are varied and include salvage assistance to damaged surface vessels, location of aircraft on the seabottom, survey of WWII wrecks, towage of warships and submarines, emergency response preparedness exercises and underwater engineering support to resolve defects on Navy platforms at home and overseas._


The ROV Team delivers discrete outputs within SALMO by using cutting edge commercial ROV technology to provide UK Defence with a deep water salvage capability, as the ROV Supervisor you will be responsible for the safe delivery of ROV operational outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy afloat to deliver the inservice operation of the ROV system and work offshore, initially 60 days building to 120 days per year in subsequent years.
  • Lead the ROV team in mobilising marine platforms, assisting with vessel selection/suitability and integration elements prior to deployments.
  • Communicate regularly with the team onboard and ashore, organising and managing the team and ensuring surveyors and Pilot Technicians carry out all tasks in accordance with SALMO procedures and industry best practices.
  • Be responsible for onshore and offshore Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) operations on a worldwide basis. This includes managing the safety and outputs of the SALMO ROV capability on a daytoday basis including the offshore team, for which you will be responsible for. Working closely with the team of Surveyors, Pilot Technicians and Superintendent, you will deliver the required outputs on time and to quality and budget.
  • Assess and develop risk control measures and own the offshore Safety and Environmental Management System.
  • Establish and lead a team demonstrating good clear communications ensuring all members of the team understand their roles and responsibilities and how these contribute to the wider outputs of the ROV team.
  • Lead the training and assessment of the Pilot Technicians and Surveyors within the offshore team.

Person specification

  • Hold a relevant Degree level qualification, technical qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
  • ROV Senior Pilot/Technician with logbook demonstrated IMCA competency at (minimum) IMCA ROV Senior Pilot/Technician (R/R02) with work class vehicles.
  • At least 180 days of logbook demonstrated offshore experience as Senior ROV Pilot/Technician with work class vehicles.
  • You will have relevant, demonstrable offshore or marine operations experience of ROV systems such as Forum Energy Technologies.

Due to the nature of this role, you are:

  • Required to be fit to pass and maintain a two-yearly ENG1 seafarers medical (no geographical limitations)
  • Required to enlist as a Royal Navy Sponsored Reserve
  • Expected to work extended hours as and when required in support of operational commitments
  • Required to live within 60 minutes travelling time of the base to which you are appointed
  • Required to hold an indate UK driving licence
