Our dynamic, friendly Cardiothoracic department have a wonderful opportunity for a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to join its Team to support the Clinical Service Unit Lead for Essex CTC and Divisional Clinical Director in leading to the implementation of the Workforce Plan for medical staff within the Centre.

Your role, as Locum Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, will be to support the Anaesthetic team's increasing clinical activity, additional Cath Lab and Theatre Sessions at The
Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC), based at Basildon and part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.


This will be an exciting and challenging opportunity for you to become part of the team leading to development of Cardiovascular, Thoracic, and Cardiology and Intensive care services within this dedicated Centre for Essex.


Our Essex CTC is one of the few centres in the UK has well established mínimally invasive Cardiac Surgical Programme, a Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Implantation Programme successfully commenced since 2017,a well established 24/7 Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PPCI) service and our Critical Care Unit has successfully implemented the Therapeutic Hypothermia Protocol for Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest patients.

For your role you will be required to hold a CCST or CCT and be trained in all aspects of General Anaesthesia and have a special interest in

Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia, Cardiac Critical Care and Cardiology Intervention services with experience in providing perioperative TOE services and undertaking regular clinical commitments in Cardiothoracic Critical Care working as a key component of our Tertiary Centre Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and will involve MDT meetings with other colleagues participating in out of hours consultant cover on a rota (1:9).

On-call responsibilities cover Cardiothoracic Theatres, Cardiac Critical Care and Cardiology Intervention services.


You will have the opportunity to development your own interests and specialisation within Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia, & Critical Care including active participation in research programmes, including contributing to the development of an academic programme for the unit whilst being responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties and for contributing to undergraduate and post-graduate and continuing medical education activity and proving cover for Consultant colleagues' periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (ECTC).
