As one of the leading port operators in the United Kingdom, ABP plays a crucial role in facilitating trade and commerce.
In this dynamic position, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for the efficient and safe functioning of the port in Plymouth.
You will actively engage in the mooring/unmooring of vessels, the movement of vehicles and passengers through the Port, operating plant, and equipment safely and responsibly.
Accountabilities
- To work safely and responsibly in all aspects of the role. Assist in the compilation of Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and participate in Toolbox Talks
- Authorised to take part in mooring/unmooring operations and to operate cargo handling plant and port infrastructure including Front Loading shovels, Forklift Trucks, Skidsteers, telehandlers, tug masters, RoRo ramp and passenger access bridge.
- To work as part of the ferry handling team and assist in general port operations and stevedoring.
- Ensure good housekeeping on the Port as directed by supervisors.
- Work flexibly to permit full operational benefit of labour.
Skills, experiences, qualifications, and competencies
Essential
- To work in compliance with the ABP Safety, Environmental and Security policies
- Driving License
- Aptitude to learn new skills and have a flexible outlook.
- Ability to fit into and enhance the existing Plymouth operations team.
- Be physically fit and be able to carry out manual tasks.
Ideal
- Existing Licence holder for operational plant
- Previous experience of working in a port or other similar marine environment
Shift Pattern
You will be required to work 39 hours per week covering 7 days a week (9 sailings) the range is from 08:00 am to 23:00pm.
Example of a weekly rota:
- Monday 14:30pm 10:30pm
- Tuesday 12:30pm 20:30pm
- Wednesday 9:00am 17:00pm
- Thursday 14:30pm 10:30pm
- Friday 9:00am 17:00pm
- Saturday 14:30pm 10:30pm
- Sunday 12:30pm 20:30pm

£25,276.00-£27,752.00 per year
