SM&T offers students an invaluable opportunity to gain experience and knowledge into our business and the energy sector.

This will serve as a platform for you to explore your chosen career path and determine the best fit for your aspirations.

Throughout the internship, you'll be actively engaged in impactful projects crafted with your development in mind.

You will receive dedicated support from a supervisor to set you up for success and ensure to maximize your growth.

At the end of your internship, you'll present your learnings to the team upon completion of your project, where we will assess your suitability to join the graduate scheme in 2025.

A CAREER IN
TRADING

Trading within SM&T facilitates the efficient exchange of energy resources between producers, consumers, and intermediaries to meet demand, manage risk, whilst maintaining profitability.

This is an exciting role in the Environmental Products Origination team which derives and trades carbon, Green Power/Gas certificates. We are effectively sourcing carbon offsets to help clients meet their climate objectives. Therefore, if you have an interest in sustainability, this is an exciting time to join this team.

You will gain exposure into some of the complexities of trading and identifying originating carbon offset opportunities for the team.

There will be an opportunity for you to use your skills to provide market analysis and learn more about this area to determine if this interests you.

You will work on a range of projects, assisting with due diligence and handling complex data.

ELIGIBILITY
We are seeking ambitious and driven interns like yourself - individuals who are eager learners and high achievers.

For our internship:

You must be in your penultimate year of study and likely to graduate in 202
You will need to be studying towards your Bachelor's, Master's or PhD.
You'll need to be on track for a 2:1 or higher.
We do not offer sponsorship for the internship, so you must be studying in the UK and have the relevant right to work during the summer.

SKILLS REQUIRED
As part of our Intern Programme, you'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across Trading and we would be looking for:

A keen interest in Sustainability or Environmental Sciences.
Strong numerical background.
A team player, you'll have no problem working with a diverse range of people, backgrounds and working styles.
A people person, your relationship skills will help keep crossteam communication clear and effective.
Willingness to learn and a keen interest in selfdevelopment.

GRADUATE SCHEME 2025

If you successfully complete the internship and based on role availability, you may have the opportunity to join our graduate scheme without requiring any further interviews.

This means you will return to your final year at university and have a job waiting for you to start in September 2025.

The Trading Graduate Scheme is a two-year rotational programme.

That means you'll try out a range of positions across different teams, giving you the chance to learn how our business works and, more importantly, find what it is you most enjoy.

By getting a taste of different areas, you can identify the parts you liked and want to pursue more of, build up a network of connections, and get to grips with a range of different responsibilities.

Over the course of the programme, you'll rotate every six months - plenty of time to find an area that suits what you want to do.

And for an ambitious grad like yourself, it's a chance to get stuck into the things that make working at SM&T so exciting.
