Avocet Ward is a warm and friendly community inpatient rehabilitation ward which provides a service to patients over 65 years.


We are currently looking for 1 x part time band 6 to lead and support our staff on a newly refurbished ward.

We work closely work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide a high standard of care to our patient's.


You will be fully supported to complete the Management Development program, currently being run on Microsoft teams to assist you in your development as a ward leader.

Clinical/Professional Duties

  • Develop the assessment, development, implementation and delivery of agreed standard of nursing care.
  • Assist the ward manager to ensure all staff are aware of prevention and control of infection.
  • Ensure agreed standard of ward cleanliness by reporting any concerns to the ward manager.
  • Patient/Client Care
  • Work collaboratively with patients' families, MTD and social care to ensure patients receive timely and safe discharge.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and protect their rights and dignity.
  • Discharge patients following the Trust's Discharge Policy.
  • Provide basic, intermediate and advanced patient care.
Communication Skills

  • Handle conflicts, grievance and complaints in an effective and professional manner and refer to ward manager.
  • Ensure that nursing records are completed accurately.
  • Work as a team member and promote multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Promote ward and Trust in the most positive manner to patients and public at all times.
  • Education and Research
  • Participate in learning opportunities for healthcare assistants and student nurses.
  • Assist in orientation programme, individualised teaching programmes for junior staff.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of speciality; nursing older people.
  • Carry out job performance review using the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF).
  • Maintain uptodate skills and knowledge.

What is Staff Bank?


Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.


All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Work closely with ward manager and deputy ward manager for the management of patient care by providing good leadership and managerial skills.
  • Comply with all policies and guidelines by the Trust.
  • Assist the ward manager by ensuring that the 'on duty' rota is balanced to meet the workload on the ward.
  • Assist in management of change in an effective manner and ensure smooth transition.
  • Participate in special projects within the directorate.
  • Monitor standards of nursing care and be a patient advocate.
  • Attend regular meetings and ensure effective communication at all times.
  • Advise the ward manager on any problems concerning staff, their working practices and environment.
  • Minimise risk in the ward and adhere to the Trust's Risk Management Policy.
  • Assist in maintaining custody of controlled drugs.
  • Finance and Physical Resources
  • Understand budgeting costs in order that all resources are used appropriately and efficiently.
Information Management

  • Provide regular audits on care and implement findings to ensure best practices.
  • Ensure that all nursing records and documents are completed accurately and legibly.
  • Ensure all staff are made aware of changes required as part of the National Programme for IT and use of clinical systems
