Description

The Associate HCSW Development Educator is an exciting role that will work towards developing our Health Care Support Workers through providing initial training in the HCSW Guide to Excellence and Care Certificate training courses.

The post holder will innovate new development opportunities for this valued part of the Trust's workforce.

Each year they will administer and run the HCSW Development Programme, and in conjunction with the Student Nursing Associate (SNA) Programme lead the HCSW to TNA Prepare to Progress programme.


This role will also provide pastoral support for our new and existing HCSW, which will help enable confidence and competence within their role.

Within the role of Associate HCSW Development Educator the post holder is required to:

  • Assist with interviews and Recruitment events where required, to promote the role and present an overview of development opportunities.
  • Provide pastoral support visits across the Trust for new and existing HCSW.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the "HCSW Guide to Excellence" 2day new to acute care training course in collaboration with the Professional Education Manager.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the HCSW Development Programme each year with collaboration from the Professional Education Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with SNA lead and Library Service to promote and deliver the "HCSW to TNA Prepare to Progress" course.
  • Signpost staff to the appropriate learning opportunities for HCSW.
  • Lead HCSW Clinics across the Trust.
  • Support HCSW Career Conversations across the Trust as required.

The Associate HCSW Development Educator will:

  • Present locally and nationally promoting the role of the HCSW Development Educator and sharing examples of good practice.
  • Observe a variety of clinical areas to ensure training is able to be tailored for relevance to attendees.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across the Trust to ensure excellent training and pastoral support is delivered.
  • Teach the Care Certificate and also assist HCSW to complete their workbook where required.
  • Monitor and report on compliance of Care Certificate completion. Work collaboratively across the Trust to identify actions to improve compliance as required.
  • Championing new innovative training opportunities for HCSW.
  • Assist the Lead for the Care Certificate with any updates or changes to the programme.
  • Actively facilitate staff development and support by acting as a buddy on clinical duties.
  • Set up and prepare teaching rooms and learning resources.
  • Ensure all training activity is quality assured and meets regulatory and auditory requirements.
  • Mentor, and coach individual staff members who are undertaking a personal improvement plan when a referral for has been made by a manager for education purposes.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning activities and support, and innovate new development initiatives to meet the organisational and individual needs.
  • Contribute towards developing a culture of learning and innovation, developing high quality learning environments
  • Attend workplace and staff engagement meetings, and contribute positively to discussions about the improvement of care through education and pastoral support.
  • Working collaboratively to embed SIM and TEL based training within all educational offerings
