This is a fantastic opportunity for a wildlife management professional with experience of managing wildlife and pest control in urban environments to join our prestigious organisation.

In this highly rewarding role, you will ensure that our parks remain havens for wildlife that promote biodiversity, contributing to a resilient and sustainable environment.

What's more, you will be working in an urban oasis of green, with the chance to spend your days outside and ensuring that the wildlife in our parks receives the very best care possible.

As a Wildlife Officer, you will ensure our parks are safe, diverse habitats for wildlife, wildfowl and captive birds, whilst controlling pests and invasive species.

Overseeing animal welfare within our parks, you will enhance and protect habitats and, where necessary, liaise with local animal sanctuaries to rehabilitate injured animals.

To control pests, invasive species and diseases, you will survey, monitor and control populations, recording any use of traps or poisons and following regulatory requirements.

Additionally, you will:

  • Provide information and guidance to the public and volunteers on the park's wildlife
  • Implement contingency plans for avian or animal pandemics
  • Monitor the impact of business activity on wildlife
  • Remove terminally injured or dying animals
  • Monitor water quality
  • Order animal feed and supplies
This role will involve lifting and handling large wildfowl and, on occasion, humanely despatching animals and birds.

About You:

To be considered as a Wildlife OfficeR, you will need:

  • Experience of managing wildlife and pest control especially in urban environments
  • Experience of wildlife law, conservation and the improvement of habitats
  • Good bird, animal, fish and wildlife knowledge and species identification skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • A full, valid driving licence

Ideally, you will have experience of mentoring and training apprentices, volunteers and staff in bird handling, habitat management and/or pest control.

A qualification such as an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Environmental Conservation or Gamekeeping and Wildlife Management would be highly beneficial, as would a qualification in deer management such as DSC Level 1 (or equivalent).

A pest management certificate, such as RSPH level 2 or BASIS certification in Rodenticides would be advantageous, as would a current firearms certificate for rifles and or a shotgun.

Knowledge of the management of current and emerging animal disease epidemics such as H5n1 or Foot and Mouth would be highly desirable.

Other organisations might call this role Wildlife Planning Officer, Wildlife Management Officer, Park Ranger, Park Warden, Wildlife Ranger, or Conservation Officer.
