The Client:Our client has long-standing experience in providing independent, wide-ranging town planning and development advice to public and private sector clients, across multiple offices.

They are highly experienced in all aspects of planning and development promotion. They also offer a range of specialist services through its specialist teams.


Their
Sustainable Development and Delivery team provides advice on the practical delivery of development and optimise the value of client's assets, having very close regard to planning policy and other relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.


The Role:


They are looking for a qualified and experienced
Environmental Consultant to advise on the requirements of biodiversity net gain across the spectrum of their work.

The post will be a senior appointment (
commencing as an Associate Director) and will be fully supported by the Company's Board of Directors and senior staff in leading the promotion and resolution of issues related to environmental conservation and enhancement.


You will work with their existing client base including landowners, promoters, developers, charities and local authorities across a range of sectors including residential, commercial, specialist older persons housing and renewable energy as well as contributing to business development related to meeting the specific environmental enhancement goals of new clients.


Duties:


  • Be responsible for advising on the requirements for Biodiversity Net Gain, designing and negotiating mitigation strategies and other sustainable investment initiatives for clients on broad range of projects
  • Seek opportunities to advise on the contractual and funding structures for high profile conservation initiatives for a range of clients including Wildlife Trusts, Local Authorities, and institutional investors.
  • Explore opportunities to establish and promote new initiatives that will provide arrangements for the delivery, funding and sale of biodiversity credits and identify large institutions and new or existing land owning clients that will be crucial to the effective delivery of net gain
  • Act for developers in identifying and securing land for Biodiversity Net Gain provision.
  • Draft notes and reports to advise clients on opportunities for environmental enhancement and mechanisms for their delivery.
  • Maintain project administration and keep up to date with relevant environmental policy and legislation.
  • Develop new business opportunities for new and retained clients.

Requirements:


Essential:


  • Ability to effectively coordinate relevant environmental survey and ecological assessments
  • Understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation and practice
  • A good understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain and its implications is essential,
  • Have a qualification and experience in environmental science/environmental planning/ecology/landscape, underpinned by a strong interest in broader sustainability.
  • You will not necessarily need to demonstrate a track record in town planning, although some experience would be helpful, but they are looking to complement their expertise in these areas.
  • Your skill set in environmental sustainability and enhancement should be complemented by good commercial awareness, skills in communicating ideas, be client orientated, innovative, dynamic and enterprising.
  • Can contribute effectively to strategies for site promotion and schemes being prepared for submission and determination.
  • Strong written and communication skills and an ability to manage wider teams of subconsultants are also important.

Desirable:


  • Familiar with the requirement of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations
  • Experience in the development of planning policy and mitigation strategies
  • As part of this role, membership of the IEMA is desirable.
