Job summary:

The Government People Group exists to work with departments, professions, and functions to build a modern, effective Civil Service.

We support the government workforce with the right skills and capability.

We are working with leaders to get the right people in the right jobs, with the right skills and continuous learning to excel in their roles.

We provide leadership, and in turn, create leaders with exceptional line management capability across departments, influencing partners in the wider public sector and beyond.

This involves getting our retention and reward strategy right, to nurture specific skills, and create pride and resilience in our workforce.

Our role is also to provide system leadership across central government in pulling together back office services. Collectively, we help support the Cabinet Office's priority to drive efficiencies, and reforms that will make government work better, to ultimately provide a better service to the public

We are looking for someone with a track record of successfully building partnerships and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

The role of the Programme Planner is to work with stakeholders, both internal and external to GPG, to ensure all aspects of the programme and its associated workstreams are defined.

The planner provides clarity on planning the lifecycle of the programmes through its phases and the identification of key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a Programme can be achieved, with the resources available.

The Programme Planner will have ownership of plans, ensuring key controls and measures are in place to drive timely and appropriate decision making.

A key responsibility of the role is to take the lead on communicating and reporting progress of the programme to key internal and external stakeholders.

This will require an eye for detail, drive and determination to get the best possible information out of the programme team, collated and presented to professional quality standards.

The role holder will also work with other aspects of the programme controls required so should have a good understanding of change management, control frameworks, stakeholder management etc as the PMO in which this role is based is small and has to share duties to manage the programme to best practice and Cabinet Office expectations.

The programme comes under high levels of scrutiny so a knowledge of Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) review and reporting frameworks would be of assistance but not essential.

This is a fast-moving high-profile area of work which will offer the successful applicant an opportunity to be part of an exciting area of work.

These programmes will supply improved services for over 450,000 civil servants and citizens wishing to become a part of the Civil Service family, and deliver major improvements to how government departments works.

The team has an ambitious transformation agenda so we are building a talented multidisciplinary team that can deliver on a complex set of objectives both for the Government, Civil Servants and the public.
