The Role
Our global Operations capability spans across multiple teams, including Technology, Data, Change and business Operations.

Comprised of circa 200 colleagues, with an annual budget of £70m, the Operations Commercial Business Partner will play a key role in optimizing financial performance while aligning with delivery of our strategic commercial goals.


The primary responsibility will be to design and own the commercial framework for Operations, collaborating across teams and interfacing with Finance to ensure effective budget planning, financial forecasting and commercial vendor relationships.


This role will provide challenge and advice to the Operations leadership teams regarding overall financial performance, working to understand broader financial implications of proposed functional strategies and evaluating alternatives to drive value enhancing best practice covering financial controls and governance.

Ensuring financial forecasts are robust and monthly results are widely understood, will ensure commercial risks to the business are appropriately captured and managed.


Responsibilities will include:

Operations Finance

  • Strategic planning and budgeting, including developing a robust and effective expenses forecasting model, overseeing the development of an Operations annual budget process ensuring correct capital requirements are respected, driving a longterm and sustainable business by relentlessly focusing on financial control and governance.
  • Sets direction and develops challenging financial goals, operating plans and insightful expense metrics to assist the Operations leadership in achieving their financial and operational objectives.
  • Coordinating and managing all commercial activities, supporting the COO and Operations leadership team on financial decisions including vendor contract management, delivery and vendor optimisation to drive budget targets, managing and forecasting cash flows and determining the optimal capital structure.
  • Drive and implement a commercial framework and processes that are easily scaled, simple and understood by all ensuring cooperation across the Operations capability, developing key performance indicators and measures with a focus on continuous improvement and transparency for Operations business decision making
  • Responsible for the internal Control System, making sure that Operations is acting in line with internal and external financial standards regulations as well as Initiate analyses to identify opportunities to drive cost efficiencies
Project Finance

  • Leads strategic business case creation and evaluation; including indepth financial analysis and provides robust challenge and building out key risks and sensitivities to support decision making
  • Influences, motivates and collaborates with senior leadership in evaluation of critical projects
  • Provides strategic financial advice, support and challenge to project strategy, plans and investment decisions, working closely with other Operations, Business and Finance leads to ensure alignment of business priorities, financial plans and forecasts.
Manage relationships with key Operations vendors and suppliers

  • To drive a culture of commercial development, improvement, performance management, innovation and customer service excellence within the Operations function.
  • To undertake positive and collaborative partnerships and contract management ensuring that contracts meet requirements and deliver services in an effective way, meeting the organisations priorities.
  • Relationship Management of suppliers/service providers, and internal/external consultants supporting Operations
  • Work closely with the Procurement & Outsourcing team on the management of Operations related third party spend and vendor relationships

Skills and experience:


  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline; MBA or other advanced degree in related field desirable; professional Accountancy qualification advantageous
  • Relevant industry experience in Operations & Technology accounting and finance, including management of people and processes; ideally with experience in a management role.
  • Experience of working in finance in a global organisation with good understanding of IT and project finance.
  • Broad business / financial experience supported by strong analytical skills
  • Ability to interact and engage with senior leaders in the business and lead and motivate nonfinancially minded individuals
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to perform in an environment that emphasizes collaboration and teamwork
  • Desire to continually improve processes and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to talk and present to a range of audiences including Board members (Specifically CFO, COO and Risk and Audit committees)
